Rajasthan Royals kicked off their IPL 2026 campaign with a commanding performance, defeating Chennai Super Kings in their season opener at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati. Chasing a modest target of 128, RR wrapped up the contest in just 12.1 overs, powered by a sensational knock from Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.

Captain Riyan Parag set the tone early by opting to bowl first after winning the toss—a decision that proved spot on given the conditions. With moisture in the red-soil surface following pre-match rain, RR’s pacers made full use of the assistance on offer. Jofra Archer and Nandre Burger struck early, removing Sanju Samson, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Ayush Mhatre cheaply to leave CSK reeling.
Reflecting on the performance, Riyan Parag said, “I got lucky with the toss, but the way we executed our plans was excellent. We knew the moisture would play a part, and everyone delivered.” Leading RR for the first time full-time, Parag emphasized the team’s focus on playing “smart cricket” and adapting quickly to conditions.

CSK were eventually restricted to 127, with Jamie Overton’s 43 being the only significant contribution. Rajasthan’s bowling unit impressed collectively, with contributions from Archer, Burger, and Ravindra Jadeja, while youngster Brijesh Sharma also caught attention with a confident debut.

In response, the spotlight belonged entirely to Sooryavanshi. The 15-year-old prodigy smashed a breathtaking half-century in just 15 balls—one of the fastest in IPL history—leaving both teammates and opposition stunned. RiyanParag admitted, “We were just in awe watching him bat. It didn’t seem real, but I’m thrilled to have him in our team.”
Although Sooryavanshi eventually fell to Anshul Kamboj, the damage had already been done. RR cruised to victory with ease, underlining their dominance.

Parag also highlighted the team’s well-planned batting structure, with Dhruv Jurel at No. 3 and Shimron Hetmyer providing balance in the middle order. The emphasis on maintaining left-right combinations, he noted, is a key part of their strategy moving forward. With a perfect start to IPL 2026, Rajasthan Royals have not only showcased their depth but also sent a strong message to the rest of the competition.
