South African batter Rilee Rossouw has sparked discussion after drawing a sharp comparison between the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the Pakistan Super League (PSL). The left-hander, who is currently turning out for Quetta Gladiators in PSL 2026, said both tournaments have their own strengths, but they offer very different experiences for players.

Rossouw pointed out that the IPL is a longer, more high-profile competition, with a strong entertainment element around it. In contrast, he described the PSL as shorter, more intense, and packed with tighter on-field battles. His comments have added another layer to the ongoing debate around the two leagues and what makes each one unique.

“Both leagues have their pros and cons. IPL is a very long tournament, and PSL is a much more compact tournament where the competition is a lot more fierce,” Rossouw said. He also noted the scale of the IPL’s popularity. “IPL obviously has the whole Bollywood backing it, so it’s a lot more of a movie than actual cricket,” he added on the sidelines of the PSL.

Rossouw’s IPL journey has been far from straightforward. He first entered the auction in 2011 and was picked up by Royal Challengers Bengaluru, but he did not feature in that season. He had to wait until 2014 to finally make his IPL debut, and even then, consistency remained a challenge.

Over the years, he has represented Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings, but never managed to lock down a long-term place in the tournament because of tough overseas competition and uneven form. In 22 IPL matches, Rossouw has scored 473 runs at an average of 23.65 and a strike rate of around 153, including two half-centuries and a best of 82 not out.

His most recent IPL stint came with Punjab Kings, who bought him for ₹8 crore in 2024 before releasing him ahead of the 2025 season. He later went unsold in the 2025 mega auction after entering with a base price of ₹2 crore.

Rossouw found a fresh opportunity in PSL 2026, where Quetta Gladiators signed him for PKR 5.55 crore, roughly ₹1.66 crore. So far, he has scored 79 runs in four matches at an average of 19.75 and a strike rate of 111.26, with a top score of 53 against Rawalpindi on April 10.
