Chennai Super Kings received a crucial early breakthrough in their IPL 2026 clash against Delhi Capitals as left-arm spinner Akeal Hosein dismissed in-form opener KL Rahul at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Tuesday. After DC skipper Axar Patel opted to bat first, Rahul never quite looked settled at the crease.

Known for his consistency this season, the right-hander struggled to find rhythm against a disciplined CSK bowling attack. His innings came to an end on the very first ball of the sixth over, managing just 12 runs off 13 deliveries at a strike rate of 92.31.

The dismissal came through a moment of miscalculation. Rahul stepped down the track to take on Hosein’s flighted delivery, attempting to loft it over the covers. However, he failed to get the desired connection, and the ball was safely pouched by Ruturaj Gaikwad, handing CSK a timely wicket.

It was a significant blow for Delhi Capitals, especially considering Rahula’s outstanding form in IPL 2026. He entered the match as the tournament’s leading run-scorer, having amassed 445 runs in 10 innings at an impressive strike rate of 180.89. His early departure put immediate pressure on the DC middle order.

Delhi’s innings never really found momentum in the powerplay. While Pathum Nissanka showed brief intent with a six and a boundary, he too failed to convert his start. Left-arm pacer Mukesh Choudhary struck back in the same over, dismissing Nissanka for 19 off 15 balls, with Dewald Brevis completing the catch at mid-on.

At the end of the powerplay, Delhi Capitals were restricted to 37 for 2, a far-from-ideal start on a surface expected to favour batters.

With both teams closely placed on the points table—CSK slightly ahead due to a better net run rate—this fixture holds added significance in the race for the playoffs.
