At just 15 years of age, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has become the biggest breakout star of IPL 2026. The teenage sensation has stunned the cricketing world with fearless batting displays, dismantling elite fast bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah, Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood with remarkable confidence and maturity beyond his years.

Sooryavanshi’s explosive run-scoring spree has already placed him among the IPL’s elite entertainers. Incredibly, two of the three fastest centuries in tournament history now belong to the Rajasthan Royals prodigy. His ability to dominate bowling attacks and clear boundaries at will has drawn praise from several former international stars.

Former England captain Michael Vaughan believes the youngster is rapidly closing in on Chris Gayle’s iconic record for the fastest IPL hundred.

“It’s remarkable he’s got two of the three fastest IPL centuries. This kid has already hit a hundred in 35 and 36 balls. He’s catching up with the boss,” Michael Vaughan said on the Stick To Cricket podcast. Vaughan also pointed out Sooryavanshi’s astonishing six-hitting numbers this season.

“Most sixes by any Indian batter in an IPL season is 42 by Abhishek Sharma in 2024. This kid is already on 37. They’re probably the best six-hitter in the world right now,” he added.

Former England spinner Phil Tufnell jokingly remarked, “He could be burnt out by 21.” Vaughan responded humorously, saying, “He’ll probably have enough money by then to retire.” Meanwhile, former England skipper Alastair Cook had the final laugh, adding, “He can’t be burnt out, he only bats 30 balls.”

Sooryavanshi’s sensational rise has reportedly caught the attention of India’s selectors ahead of next month’s T20I series against Ireland. Former West Indies pacer Ian Bishop believes the young opener is already ready for international cricket and included him among his preferred opening options alongside Shubman Gill and Prabhsimran Singh.
