A fresh controversy erupted during the IPL 2026 clash between Chennai Super Kings and Lucknow Super Giants at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai after alleged visuals from the LSG dugout sparked debate on social media. The incident reportedly involved an individual wearing Lucknow Super Giants apparel who was seen using a mobile phone during the live match. Viral footage circulating online appeared to show the person holding a phone to his ear while seated inside the dugout area.

Although there has been no official confirmation from the IPL or the BCCI regarding the identity of the individual or the authenticity of the claims, the visuals have already triggered widespread discussion among fans. The controversy comes at a time when the Board of Control for Cricket in India has significantly tightened its anti-corruption and communication protocols for IPL 2026.

The league recently introduced stricter “Minimum Standards for Players and Match Officials Areas” guidelines to regulate movement, electronic device usage, and access inside protected match zones. Under the updated PMOA (Players and Match Officials Area) regulations, several areas inside the stadium are classified as restricted zones during live matches. These include dressing rooms, dugouts, player viewing areas, match officials’ rooms, dining sections, and other locations identified by the BCCI Anti-Corruption Unit.

According to the rules, mobile phones, smartwatches, and other communication devices are prohibited inside these protected areas unless specifically permitted. Team managers are allowed to use phones only in the dressing room area, not in the dugout during a match. Analysts can access approved systems only at designated analyst stations.

The guidelines also clearly state that players and support staff must hand over phones and communication devices to the team security liaison officer upon arrival at the stadium. Even accredited operational staff are barred from carrying electronic devices into restricted zones.

The latest incident has drawn additional attention because the IPL has already witnessed similar concerns this season. Earlier, a Rajasthan Royals official was reportedly pulled up for allegedly using a mobile phone in the dugout during a live game.

The BCCI has also recently intensified its crackdown on what officials describe as growing “reels culture” and unauthorised content creation around IPL venues. The board has repeatedly warned franchises, support staff, broadcasters, and players about maintaining strict discipline inside sensitive operational areas.

If the allegations surrounding the LSG dugout footage are verified, the franchise could potentially face scrutiny for breaching IPL 2026 communication protocols. However, no official action or statement has been released so far by either the IPL governing council or the Lucknow Super Giants management.
