Punjab Kings are heading into a crucial phase of IPL 2026, with momentum slipping at the wrong time. After looking like one of the most balanced sides during the first half of the season, PBKS now arrive in Dharamsala desperate to halt a three-match losing streak and revive their playoff charge. The move to the picturesque HPCA Stadium adds another layer of challenge, especially during a stage of the tournament where every point carries enormous value.

The scenic Dharamsala venue has often produced high-scoring contests, and Punjab Kings will hope the change in conditions helps them rediscover their aggressive brand of cricket. Their batting unit has largely remained competitive throughout the campaign. Apart from the disappointing outing against the Gujarat Titans, PBKS have consistently posted or chased down imposing totals. Young opener Priyansh Arya has been one of the standout performers, although opposition teams have recently exposed a weakness against the short ball. Prabhsimran Singh’s attacking starts have also been vital at the top.

Meanwhile, Cooper Connolly’s brilliant century against Sunrisers Hyderabad highlighted the depth within Punjab’s batting order. Youngster Suryansh Shedge has also impressed with his composure under pressure, giving the franchise positives despite the recent dip in form.

However, Punjab’s bowling attack remains a growing concern. Dropped catches have hurt them badly in key moments, while senior pacers Marco Jansen and Arshdeep Singh have struggled to consistently control the flow of runs. On a batting-friendly Dharamsala surface, their ability to strike early could decide the outcome of this contest.

Delhi Capitals, meanwhile, enter the clash with little momentum and fading playoff hopes. After an encouraging start to IPL 2026, DC have slipped dramatically, leaving captain Axar Patel considering changes to the playing XI as the franchise begins planning ahead. Still, teams with nothing to lose can often become dangerous opponents, and PBKS cannot afford complacency.

Weather could also play a role, with thunderstorms predicted earlier in the day. However, conditions are expected to improve closer to match time. Since IPL 2023, Dharamsala has produced an average first-innings score of 209 — the highest among all IPL venues during that period — suggesting another run-fest could be on the cards.

Historically, Punjab Kings hold a narrow 18-17 advantage over Delhi Capitals overall, while the rivalry at Dharamsala remains evenly balanced at 2-2.

Punjab Kings have received a timely boost ahead of their crucial IPL 2026 clash, with Azmatullah Omarzai returning to the squad after briefly travelling home following the demise of his mother. His availability gives PBKS added flexibility as they look to revive their playoff campaign.

The Kings may also consider tactical changes to strengthen their bowling attack. While Vijaykumar Vyshak has been their most economical seamer this season, there is growing support for bringing Harpreet Brar back into the XI. The left-arm spinner could prove effective in the Powerplay, especially against Pathum Nissanka, who has struggled against spin in T20 cricket since 2025.

Probable XII: Priyansh Arya, Prabhsimran Singh (wk), Cooper Connolly, Shreyas Iyer (c), Suryansh Shedge, Marcus Stoinis, Shashank Singh, Marco Jansen, Harpreet Brar/Vijaykumar Vyshak, Lockie Ferguson, Arshdeep Singh, Yuzvendra Chahal

PBKS bowling coach James Hopes hinted that Omarzai’s return could allow the team to field two specialist spinners. However, dropping Lockie Ferguson looks unlikely despite recent catching lapses costing the pacer wickets.

For Delhi Capitals, captain Axar Patel holds a strong record against Marcus Stoinis in T20s and may save an over specifically for that matchup. Meanwhile, Kuldeep Yadav could miss out after a poor run of form, potentially making room for seamer Auqib Nabi or all-rounder Ajay Mandal.

Probable XII: Pathum Nissanka, KL Rahul (wk), Nitish Rana, Sameer Rizvi, Axar Patel (c), Tristan Stubbs, Ashutosh Sharma, Vipraj Nigam, Ajay Mandal/Auqib Nabi, Mitchell Starc, Lungi Ngidi, Mukesh Kumar
