Virat Kohli’s record-breaking night in IPL 2026 came with a touch of humour as the Royal Challengers Bengaluru superstar hilariously celebrated scoring his first run against the Kolkata Knight Riders in Raipur. After enduring back-to-back golden ducks in his previous two innings, Kohli finally got off the mark and responded with an exaggerated celebration that instantly went viral on social media.

The RCB icon walked out for his historic 279th IPL appearance, officially becoming the most-capped player in the tournament’s history. Kohli moved past former Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni to achieve the milestone, adding another remarkable record to his legendary IPL career.
However, despite the historic moment, the spotlight was firmly on Kohli’s recent struggles with the bat. Fans inside the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium anxiously watched every ball as the veteran batter looked to avoid another early dismissal.

The light-hearted reaction quickly became one of the standout moments of the match, with IPL’s official social media accounts sharing the clip alongside the caption, “Celebrate every run like Virat Kohli.”

The entertaining evening also featured a bizarre incident involving RCB opener Jacob Bethell. During the chase, Bethell was struck by a sharp bouncer that snapped his gold chain, which fell unnoticed onto the field. Devdutt Padikkal later spotted the jewellery near the crease and handed it over to the umpire for safekeeping.
