Riyan Parag endured a disappointing outing in Rajasthan Royals’ must-win IPL 2026 clash against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday, as the RR skipper fell cheaply after a promising start. Mumbai captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and opted to bowl first in a high-pressure encounter that carried major playoff implications for the Rajasthan Royals.

The inaugural IPL champions entered the contest knowing that only a victory would guarantee their place in the IPL 2026 playoffs. RR suffered an early setback after losing openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and teenage sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi inside the powerplay, forcing Parag to walk in under pressure.

The right-hander initially looked in fine touch and attempted to counterattack against Afghanistan spinner Allah Ghazanfar during the sixth over. Parag smashed two consecutive boundaries to shift momentum briefly towards Rajasthan and put the young spinner under pressure.

However, Ghazanfar responded brilliantly on the final delivery of the over. Tossing the ball up invitingly, the spinner tempted Parag into going for a big shot over long-on. The RR captain failed to get enough elevation, and Tilak Varma produced an outstanding catch near the boundary ropes to complete a crucial dismissal.

Parag’s innings ended at 14 runs off just eight deliveries, dealing another major blow to Rajasthan’s fragile top order. RR finished the powerplay struggling at 54/3 before attempting to rebuild through Dhruv Jurel and Dasun Shanaka.

Despite the early dismissal, Parag enjoyed a decent IPL 2026 campaign overall. The RR skipper concluded the league stage with 272 runs from 12 innings at an impressive strike rate of 152.60.
