Rajasthan Royals teenage sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi once again proved why he has become the biggest breakout star of IPL 2026, producing a breathtaking assault against SunRisers Hyderabad in the Eliminator at the New Chandigarh Stadium on Wednesday. The 15-year-old left-hander wasted no time making an impact in the high-pressure knockout clash, smashing a towering six off SRH captain Pat Cummins in the very first over of the innings.

Facing only his second delivery in an IPL playoff match, Suryavanshi confidently lofted Cummins over long-off after the Australian pacer pitched the ball full outside off stump. The fearless youngster has already built a reputation this season for taking on world-class fast bowlers. Earlier in IPL 2026, he had also launched Cummins for a six in the opening over during their previous meeting.

Throughout the campaign, Suryavanshi has dominated elite bowlers, including Jasprit Bumrah, Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc, Mohammed Siraj, and Kagiso Rabada, with remarkable consistency. However, the Eliminator knock took his dominance to another level.

Suryavanshi unleashed complete carnage in Cummins’ second over, hammering three more sixes and a boundary in a stunning 25-run over. His aggressive intent immediately shifted momentum in Rajasthan Royals’ favour as SRH struggled to control the powerplay.

The youngster then targeted Sakib Hussain in the following over, smashing three sixes to race to a sensational half-century in just 16 balls. In the process, Suryavanshi broke Chris Gayle’s long-standing IPL record for most sixes in a single season, moving past Gayle’s tally of 59 maximums.

The left-hander also became only the fifth batter to cross the 600-run mark in IPL 2026, underlining the consistency behind his explosive batting. At the end of four overs, Rajasthan Royals had stormed to 63 without loss, with Suryavanshi unbeaten on 54 off only 16 deliveries, while Yashasvi Jaiswal played the supporting role at the other end.

Having lost both league-stage matches against SunRisers Hyderabad earlier this season, Rajasthan Royals entered the Eliminator determined to turn the tables — and Suryavanshi’s extraordinary start gave them the perfect platform in the must-win clash.
