The Indian Premier League continues to set the benchmark for franchise cricket, not only in terms of competition and viewership but also through its staggering financial rewards. As the IPL 2026 season reaches its climax, with Royal Challengers Bengaluru set to face Gujarat Titans in the final at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium on May 31, the spotlight is also on the massive prize pool and player earnings associated with the tournament.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) once again ensured substantial financial incentives for franchises and players alike. Ahead of IPL 2026, each team was allotted an auction purse of ₹125 crore. However, the overall salary cap, which includes additional player retention and squad-building components, expanded to ₹151 crore, reflecting the league’s continued financial growth.
The biggest reward, naturally, awaits the team that lifts the IPL 2026 trophy. The champions will receive ₹20 crore in prize money, while the runners-up will take home ₹13 crore. Together, the top four teams in the tournament will share a combined prize pool of ₹46.5 crore.

Rajasthan Royals, who were eliminated by the Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 2, secured a third-place finish and will earn ₹7 crore. Sunrisers Hyderabad, who exited the tournament in the Eliminator, will receive ₹6.5 crore for finishing fourth. An important aspect of the IPL’s financial structure is that franchises are required to distribute at least 50 percent of the prize money among their players. This means players benefit not only from their contracts but also from their team’s success during the season.
Regardless of how many matches they play, every player is guaranteed the full value of their auction contract as long as they remain part of the squad throughout the tournament. On top of that, the BCCI’s match-fee initiative has added another lucrative revenue stream for players.

Every member of the playing XI, including the Impact Player, earns ₹7.5 lakh per match. A player featuring in all 14 league-stage matches can pocket an additional ₹1.05 crore purely through match fees. If his team reaches the final and plays 17 matches, that figure rises to approximately ₹1.27 crore.
As a result, even a cricketer purchased at the minimum base price of ₹30 lakh can potentially earn more than ₹1.35 crore during a single IPL season.

With millions on the line and the trophy within touching distance, the IPL 2026 final promises to deliver not only cricketing glory but also significant financial rewards for the teams and players involved.
