Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has urged cricket fans and experts to remain patient with teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, emphasising that the youngster should be allowed to develop naturally without being burdened by unrealistic expectations ahead of his potential international debut. Sooryavanshi has become one of the most talked-about names in Indian cricket after earning a place in India’s squad for the upcoming white-ball tour of Ireland and England.

At just 15 years and 71 days old, the Bihar-born batter became the youngest player ever selected for the Indian team, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s long-standing record. The talented left-hander from Tajpur in Bihar’s Samastipur district is part of India’s squad for two T20Is against Ireland on June 26 and 28, followed by a five-match T20I series against England from July 1 to 11. If he features in the opening match against Ireland, he will become the youngest cricketer to represent India at the international level.

Speaking to PTI, Sourav Ganguly advised everyone to give the teenager the time and space needed to adapt to international cricket. “I think we should let him be; he is just 15-year-old and I don’t think he will bother too much about pressure and that is what we get to see him in the IPL. Obviously, playing for India is different and he will be touring where the wickets will be a little different,” Ganguly said.

The former BCCI president also warned against placing immediate expectations on the youngster. “So just let him be, don’t expect the world from him straightaway. Just allow him to settle down because you know he has got a lot of talent like many others in India,” Sourav Ganguly added.

Sooryavanshi’s selection follows a remarkable IPL 2026 season with the Rajasthan Royals. The teenage opener claimed the Orange Cap after scoring 776 runs, including one century and five half-centuries, at a stunning strike rate of 237.3.

Comparisons with Sachin Tendulkar are inevitable because of the age factor. Tendulkar made his India debut at 16 against a fearsome Pakistan attack featuring Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, Abdul Qadir and Imran Khan.

While Tendulkar announced himself with elegant strokeplay and flawless timing, Sooryavanshi has already earned attention for his fearless power-hitting. The upcoming tour of Ireland and England will offer the youngster his biggest challenge yet and a chance to showcase his talent in unfamiliar conditions.
