The dramatic finish to the India A vs Sri Lanka A Tri-Series clash in Dambulla has become one of the biggest talking points in cricket, with former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin describing the sequence of events as “great theatre.” The match featured a tied finish, a controversial Super Over, heated exchanges between players, and a post-match altercation involving teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.

After both teams ended level at the conclusion of the 50-over contest, the winner had to be decided through a Super Over. However, the decision to continue the game despite fading light sparked debate. Reports also suggested that the Sri Lanka A team took time to arrive for the Super Over, which added to the frustration within the India A camp.

The tension escalated further after a controversial no-ball decision during the Super Over. A waist-high full toss bowled by Arshad Khan was adjudged a no-ball by the TV umpire, even though Avishka Fernando had been caught in the field while attempting a big shot.
Indian players had already started walking back toward the dressing room before being called back to complete the over. Ravichandran Ashwin shared his thoughts on the incident on social media.

“These games won’t have as many cameras as we are used to seeing in the IPL,” Ravichandran Ashwin posted on X. “The No Ball call in the super over was debatable and the way Sri Lanka delayed coming into bat in the super over really irked the India A side. The frustration shown by the Indian team was understandable, while what Sri Lanka did was play proper mind games. Great theatre,” he added.

The drama continued after the match ended. According to reports, Sri Lankan player Vishen Halambage allegedly sledged Sooryavanshi, prompting the young Indian batter to react angrily and shove his opponent before teammates intervened. Earlier, India A had recovered from a collapse to post 265, but Sri Lanka A matched the total to force a tie. In the Super Over, Sri Lanka A scored 17 runs, while India A could manage only 9, sealing a memorable victory for the hosts.
