Sri Lanka A edged India A in a thrilling Super Over finish on Monday, producing one of the most dramatic matches of the ongoing tri-series. The contest had everything—momentum swings, a tied finish, confusion over playing conditions, heated exchanges between captain Tilak Varma and the umpires, and even a post-match confrontation involving teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.

After being asked to bat first, India A recovered from a difficult position to post a competitive total of 265. Young opener Vaibhav Sooryavanshi provided an aggressive start, scoring 21 off just 14 balls with a six and two boundaries before falling to spinner Sahan Arachchige. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Tilak Varma then steadied the innings with a valuable 52-run partnership.

However, Sri Lanka A’s spin attack turned the game on its head. From a comfortable 91/2, India A slipped to 143/7 as Vijayakanth Viyaskanth and the rest of the spin unit tightened their grip on a sluggish surface. Gaikwad and Tilak both departed at crucial stages, leaving India A staring at a below-par score.

The turnaround came through an outstanding eighth-wicket partnership between Suryansh Shedge and Vipraj Nigam. The duo added 104 runs, rescuing India A from serious trouble. Shedge played a mature knock of 72 from 66 deliveries, while Nigam contributed a composed 51 off 49 balls. Their partnership lifted India A to a total that looked competitive on a challenging pitch.

Sri Lanka A’s chase was anchored by Sadeera Samarawickrama, whose superb 91 kept the hosts firmly in contention. The match went down to the final over, with Sri Lanka A requiring five runs to win.

Arshad Khan responded brilliantly under pressure. The left-arm pacer executed his yorkers perfectly and conceded only four runs. With two needed from the final ball, Sri Lanka A managed just a single before a run-out attempt left the scores level, forcing a Super Over.

The drama intensified when uncertainty emerged over whether fading light would allow a Super Over to take place. Tilak Varma and members of the India A support staff were visibly frustrated as discussions continued with the match officials. Eventually, the umpires confirmed that the game would be decided through a one-over eliminator.

Sri Lanka A made the most of the opportunity. Despite Arshad returning to bowl, the hosts scored 18 runs in the Super Over through aggressive strokeplay and a series of costly extras. Avishka Fernando smashed a massive six, while a controversial no-ball decision on the final delivery added further tension to the contest.

India A’s response never gained momentum. Suryansh Shedge and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi were sent out to chase 19, but Sri Lanka A spinner Kugathas Mathulan delivered under pressure. Although Sooryavanshi struck a boundary, India A fell well short of the target. Needing eight off the final ball, the youngster was beaten by a pinpoint yorker as Sri Lanka A completed a memorable victory.

Emotions boiled over after the match, with players from both sides involved in a heated exchange. Sooryavanshi appeared to confront a Sri Lankan player during the celebrations, bringing an explosive end to an unforgettable contest that will be remembered as one of the most dramatic matches of the tournament.
