Kuldeep Yadav could be one of the biggest names on the move ahead of IPL 2027, with reports suggesting that the experienced India spinner is set to part ways with Delhi Capitals and join Lucknow Super Giants. According to a Times of India report, LSG are keen to strengthen their spin department and see Kuldeep as a key piece in their rebuilding plans for the upcoming season.

The potential move comes after a disappointing IPL 2026 campaign for both Kuldeep and Delhi Capitals. Despite being regarded as one of India’s premier white-ball spinners, Kuldeep struggled to make his usual impact. His wicket-taking threat diminished, his economy rate climbed, and questions were raised about how the bowling unit was managed under captain Axar Patel.

For Lucknow Super Giants, the acquisition could address one of their biggest weaknesses from last season. LSG endured a forgettable IPL 2026 campaign, finishing at the bottom of the points table despite entering the tournament with high expectations. Their spin attack lacked consistency, with Digvesh Rathi carrying the responsibility as the frontline spinner.

Rathi had enjoyed a breakthrough IPL 2025 season, picking up 14 wickets in 13 matches while maintaining an impressive economy rate of 8.25. However, he failed to replicate that success in 2026, managing only five wickets in 10 appearances while conceding runs at an economy rate exceeding 10. His dip in form exposed LSG’s lack of depth in the spin department and highlighted the need for an experienced match-winner.

This is where Kuldeep could prove invaluable. The left-arm wrist-spinner brings international experience, tactical awareness, and the ability to strike in crucial phases of an innings. His presence would instantly add balance and variety to Lucknow’s bowling attack.

While 2026 was a difficult season, Kuldeep’s overall record with Delhi Capitals remains impressive. After being retained for ₹13.25 crore ahead of IPL 2025, he delivered an outstanding campaign, claiming 15 wickets in 13 innings while maintaining a superb economy rate of 7.07. Since joining Delhi ahead of IPL 2022 after a lengthy stint with Kolkata Knight Riders, he has been one of the franchise’s most dependable performers.

Delhi Capitals themselves are expected to undergo significant changes after narrowly missing out on the playoffs once again. Despite showing flashes of brilliance, they ultimately cost themselves a place in the top four due to inconsistency.

Meanwhile, Lucknow Super Giants are preparing for a fresh start. With Rishabh Pant stepping down as captain following two disappointing seasons in charge, the franchise is expected to reshape both its leadership group and playing squad. If the reported move materialises, Kuldeep Yadav could become one of the centrepieces of LSG’s plans to return to playoff contention in IPL 2027.
