Rohit Sharma and Prasidh Krishna put together a rare and memorable bowling partnership during the third ODI against Afghanistan at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Saturday. While the veteran opener showcased his sharp instincts in the slip cordon by taking three catches, Prasidh ran through the Afghanistan top order with a brilliant opening spell, finishing as the chief destroyer.

After Afghanistan chose to bat first, Prasidh made an immediate impact and set the tone for India’s dominance. What made the effort special was the fact that all three early wickets came through the same Rohit-Prasidh combination, creating an unusual chain of catches at first slip inside the first eight overs of the innings.

Prasidh struck with the very first ball of his spell when he dismissed Rahmanullah Gurbaz. The right-arm pacer found just enough movement outside the off stump, tempting Gurbaz into a drive. The batter edged it straight to Rohit Sharma, who held on safely at first slip.

The duo connected again in the sixth over. This time, Prasidh tested Rahmat Shah with a well-directed back-of-a-length delivery. Rahmat attempted to work it into the leg side, but only managed a leading edge, and Rohit once again completed the catch with ease.

The unique sequence continued in the eighth over when Ibrahim Zadran became Prasidh’s third victim. Trying to play positively on the rise, Ibrahim nicked the ball to slip, where Rohit pouched his third catch of the innings and completed the rare triple combination.

At that stage, Afghanistan were under severe pressure at 62/4 in 14 overs. Prasidh Krishna stood out with excellent figures of 4/6 from four overs, while Rohit Sharma’s sharp work in the slips helped India dominate the early phase of the contest. Afghanistan’s top order, with Gurbaz, Rahmat, and Ibrahim all falling to the same Rohit-Prasidh link-up, left Hashmatullah Shahidi and Darwish Rasooli with a major rebuilding job.
