Vaibhav Sooryavanshi arrived in Sri Lanka carrying massive expectations, and he did not disappoint when it mattered most. The teenage sensation had already turned heads with sensational IPL 2026 playoff knocks of 97 in the Eliminator and 96 in Qualifier 2. Those back-to-back match-winning efforts made him the youngest-ever Orange Cap winner in IPL history and further strengthened his growing reputation as one of Indian cricket’s brightest young talents.

At just 15, Sooryavanshi has already forced his way into the conversation for the future of Indian cricket. His explosive form in the T20 format also earned him a landmark call-up from the Indian selection committee for the upcoming T20I series in Ireland and England, a major step in a career that is moving at incredible speed.
Even though the Tri-Nation A Series in Dambulla was a one-day tournament, expectations around the India A opener remained sky-high. Yet, in his first four innings, Sooryavanshi scored 117 runs, showing glimpses of promise without fully converting his starts into big scores. He looked fluent, but the final breakthrough had been missing.

That changed in the grandest possible way in the final. Sooryavanshi smashed the fastest fifty in List A cricket history, reaching the landmark in just 11 balls before eventually falling for a breathtaking 94 off 29 deliveries. His explosive innings powered India A to a commanding 377/9 against Sri Lanka A and laid the platform for a match-winning total.

After the game, Sooryavanshi credited India A head coach Hrishikesh Kanitkar for helping him reset mentally. Speaking to Sportstar, he said that when runs were not coming, he sat down with Kanitkar, who encouraged him to trust his natural game and play with freedom.
“These conditions were slightly different, so it threw some challenges initially. So, I was trying too hard, but wasn’t being able to execute the plans. That’s when he told me, ‘tu apna natural game khel, zyada soch mat,’” Vaibhav Sooryavanshi said.

He also dismissed any suggestion of pressure in the final, insisting his focus was simply on executing his plan in the first 10 overs before building from there. For Sooryavanshi, the message was clear: back your game, trust your instincts, and the results will follow.
