Former India fast bowler S. Sreesanth has made a bold claim about teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, saying he would have found a way to dismiss the 15-year-old despite the youngster’s fearless domination of world-class bowlers during IPL 2026. While acknowledging Sooryavanshi’s extraordinary talent, Sreesanth stressed that every batter, no matter how gifted, has weaknesses that experienced bowlers look to exploit.

The comments come shortly after former India batter Sanjay Manjrekar warned that competition for places in India’s T20I side is heating up, with Sooryavanshi waiting for his opportunity after being left out of the playing XI for the opening T20I against Ireland.

India opted to retain the experienced opening pair of Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma in Belfast, leaving Sooryavanshi on the bench. However, the decision backfired as the reigning T20 World Cup champions suffered a shock 34-run defeat to Ireland, increasing calls for the teenage prodigy to make his international debut in the second T20I.

Speaking on ABP News, Sreesanth praised Sooryavanshi’s fearless approach while confidently backing his own ability as a fast bowler. “If I had been playing against him, I would have dismissed him. If I could get someone like Matthew Hayden out, why not Vaibhav Sooryavanshi? Having said that, full credit to Vaibhav and his family for producing such a fearless young talent,” S Sreesanth said.

The 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 ODI World Cup winner also compared Sooryavanshi’s self-belief to that of a young Sachin Tendulkar. According to Sreesanth, the teenager possesses the confidence and temperament required to succeed at the highest level, but he also emphasized that selection should always be based on performances rather than hype.

“The confidence Vaibhav has at this age reminds me of Sachin Tendulkar. Sachin showed signs of greatness very early in his career, and Vaibhav has displayed a similar fearless mindset. If a young player is performing consistently, whether a batter or a fast bowler, age should never become a barrier to representing India,” he added.

Sreesanth also predicted a remarkable future for the Bihar-born batter, calling him a potential global ambassador for cricket. He believes Sooryavanshi could become one of the faces of the sport when cricket returns to the Olympic Games and inspire a new generation of fans around the world.

Meanwhile, India’s defeat in Belfast marked Ireland’s first-ever victory over the Men in Blue in international cricket. Led by Lorcan Tucker’s composed half-century and a disciplined bowling performance, Ireland successfully defended 182 to take a 1-0 lead in the two-match T20I series. With the series on the line, attention will once again be on India’s team selection, and whether Sooryavanshi finally gets the opportunity to make his much-anticipated international debut.
