India all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy is set for an extended spell on the sidelines after the BCCI’s medical team advised him to take additional rest while recovering from a left quadriceps injury. According to a report by The Times of India, the 22-year-old has not yet begun his rehabilitation programme, making his participation in the upcoming three-match ODI series against England highly unlikely.

Reddy was initially ruled out of the T20I series against Ireland and England after experiencing discomfort in his left quadriceps. While the injury is understood to be a minor strain, the BCCI is taking a cautious approach to ensure he returns only when fully fit.

The report states that Reddy has been sidelined since the third ODI against Afghanistan in Chennai. Although the team management remains optimistic about his recovery, a comeback during the England ODIs appears doubtful. Instead, the three-match T20I series against Zimbabwe later in July is emerging as the most realistic opportunity for the young all-rounder to return to competitive cricket.

At present, Reddy is undergoing treatment at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru and is expected to remain there for at least another month. The long-term objective is to have him fully fit for India’s two-Test tour of Sri Lanka in August, with the schedule expected to be announced soon.

Reddy’s injury dates back to the ODI series against Afghanistan. He picked up the issue while bowling in the opening match in Dharamsala and was rested for the second ODI in Lucknow. Although he returned for the series decider in Chennai and bowled six overs, conceding 42 runs without taking a wicket, he reported discomfort after the match, prompting further medical evaluation.

His absence has further weakened India’s pace-bowling all-rounder options, with Hardik Pandya also recovering from a leg injury. As a result, the selectors and team management are expected to carefully monitor Reddy’s rehabilitation before taking a final call on his return to international cricket.
