India wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan produced a sharp piece of glovework to dismiss England captain Harry Brook in the second T20I of the five-match series in Manchester on Saturday, July 4. The catch came at a crucial moment as England attempted to rebuild their chase of 191 after losing both openers inside the powerplay.

The dismissal arrived on the fourth ball of the fifth over, when Axar Patel angled a length delivery down the leg side from around the wicket. Brook went for the sweep, but the ball brushed his glove on the way through and Kishan completed a neat catch behind the stumps. The umpire initially signalled it as a wide, forcing India to go upstairs. UltraEdge then showed a clear spike, confirming Brook’s edge and giving Axar his first wicket of the innings.

The wicket was a landmark one for Axar as well. With Brook’s dismissal, the left-arm spinner reached 100 T20I wickets for India, becoming the first Indian spinner to achieve the feat in men’s T20 internationals. It was a fitting reward for a disciplined spell after Brook had threatened to take the game away from India.

Brook had already counterattacked in spectacular fashion, smashing 39 off just 15 balls with four fours and three sixes. His 50-run stand for the third wicket with Jacob Bethell had lifted England after a disastrous start, but Kishan’s catch brought that momentum to a sudden halt. England were left at 51 for 3 after 4.4 overs, with India back in control.

Earlier, Arshdeep Singh had dealt the hosts two huge blows in the opening over by removing Phil Salt and Jos Buttler for ducks. England’s chase of 191 then depended heavily on Brook’s burst, but India’s bowlers tightened the screws once he departed.

At the time of writing, England were 78 for 3 after nine overs, still needing 113 runs. Bethell was batting on 18 off 19 balls, while Tom Banton was also on 18 off 17, with India looking firmly on top.
