Team India have shifted their focus to the upcoming three-match ODI series against England after a disappointing T20I campaign, with senior stars Virat Kohli and captain Shubman Gill hitting the training ground ahead of the series opener in Birmingham on July 14. As preparations gathered pace, Kohli and Gill were seen taking part in an intense fielding drill under the supervision of the team’s fielding coach.

The session involved sprinting forward, collecting the ball cleanly, and aiming direct throws at a single stump, a routine designed to sharpen reflexes and improve fielding accuracy ahead of the 50-over contests. Virat Kohli was also spotted interacting with Shubman Gill and several teammates during the session, sharing inputs and keeping the atmosphere lively as India look to reset following their T20I struggles.

Alongside Kohli and Gill, experienced campaigners Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, and Kuldeep Yadav also participated in the drills. The players appeared relaxed and in good spirits, exchanging smiles and laughter while maintaining focus on the upcoming challenge against England.

The ODI series presents India with an opportunity to bounce back after losing the T20I series. With several senior players returning to the squad, expectations will be high as the visitors aim to regain momentum before the rest of the international season.

Virat Kohli will be one of the biggest attractions after missing India’s previous ODI series against Afghanistan due to the hamstring injury he sustained during the IPL 2026 final. The former captain has an outstanding record in England, scoring 1,349 runs in 33 ODIs at an average of 51.88, including one century and 12 half-centuries.

Captain Shubman Gill also heads into the series in excellent touch. The stylish opener amassed 238 runs in just two innings against Afghanistan, registering a century and a half-century. The upcoming series will mark Gill’s first ODI assignment in England and his maiden 50-over series in the country as India’s captain.
