Former England fast bowler Stuart Broad believes Team India will be a completely different side in the upcoming ODI series against England, thanks to the return of senior stars Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah. After a disappointing T20I tour that saw India lose six consecutive completed matches across Ireland and England, Broad expects the experienced trio to bring much-needed stability and intensity to the squad.

India endured a forgettable white-ball campaign, suffering a 2-0 series defeat to Ireland before being outplayed 4-0 by England in the five-match T20I series. However, the visitors will welcome back several senior players for the three-match ODI series, which begins at Edgbaston on July 14.

Speaking on the For the Love of Cricket YouTube channel, Stuart Broad highlighted Virat Kohli’s influence on the dressing room, saying the batting great naturally elevates the performance of those around him.

“When you bring Virat Kohli into the squad, the intensity immediately goes up. Everyone seems to perform better because you’ve got one of India’s greatest cricketers in the team. Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah have a similar impact, so England will face a very different challenge in the ODI series,” Stuart Broad said.

The former England pacer also expressed surprise over Bumrah’s absence from the recently concluded T20I series. Despite enduring a difficult IPL campaign after helping India win the T20 World Cup earlier this year, Broad hopes the premier fast bowler was rested rather than dropped.

“I hope Bumrah wasn’t left out because of his IPL form. He had a poor season by his standards, but you’d like to think it was simply workload management and not a selection decision,” Stuart Broad added.

Interestingly, Bumrah has not played an ODI for India since the 2023 ODI World Cup final in Ahmedabad. With the pace spearhead returning alongside Kohli and Rohit, India will be aiming to leave behind their disappointing T20I results and begin the ODI series on a winning note.
