Teenage batting prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi may have endured a difficult start to his international career during India’s recent T20I series against England, but the 15-year-old has received a major vote of confidence from Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza ahead of the upcoming three-match T20I series in Harare. Despite failing to make a significant impact with scores of 14, 13 and 15 against England, Sooryavanshi remains one of India’s brightest young prospects.
Raza believes the youngster possesses the talent to become a future superstar and urged cricket fans not to judge him based on a handful of international innings. The three-match T20I series between India and Zimbabwe, beginning on July 23 at the Harare Sports Club, presents Sooryavanshi with an ideal opportunity to bounce back. The left-handed opener is expected to be one of the biggest attractions of the tour as he looks to showcase the immense potential that has made him one of the most talked-about young cricketers in world cricket.
Speaking on JioHotstar ahead of the series opener, Raza insisted that criticism of a 15-year-old player after only a few matches is unfair. The Zimbabwe skipper highlighted the importance of patience and proper guidance in shaping Sooryavanshi’s career.

“Vaibhav is a supremely talented cricketer. If a 15-year-old kid is playing international cricket and if you start criticizing him after just two or three matches, I don’t think that’s justified. He has some outstanding senior players around him, and if he is managed and handled well, I believe Vaibhav could become a generational talent,” Sikandar Raza said.
The experienced all-rounder also praised Sooryavanshi’s remarkable rise through the ranks. From excelling in age-group cricket to earning an IPL opportunity and an India debut at just 15, Raza believes the youngster has already achieved milestones that very few players accomplish at such a young age.

“To see what a 15-year-old has achieved over the last year, what he has done for India Under-19, and the fact that he has already made his international debut are incredible achievements. You rarely hear stories like this in modern cricket. Vaibhav is truly special, and the way India manages his development over the next few years will be crucial,” he added.
Interestingly, Zimbabwe holds happy memories for Sooryavanshi. Earlier this year, the teenage sensation produced one of the finest innings in Under-19 cricket history when he hammered a breathtaking 175 off just 80 deliveries against England in the ICC Under-19 World Cup final, powering India to the title.

With Sanju Samson rested for the Zimbabwe tour, Sooryavanshi is expected to receive an extended run at the top of the order. The series provides him with a valuable chance to silence his critics and regain confidence after a disappointing outing in England.

Zimbabwe’s experienced pace duo of Blessing Muzarabani and Richard Ngarava are likely to test the youngster with aggressive short-pitched bowling, much like Jofra Archer did during the England series.
