Teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is determined to put a difficult phase behind him as he prepares to represent the India National Cricket Team in the upcoming T20I series against Zimbabwe. After enduring a challenging debut stint during India’s T20I series in England, the 15-year-old has admitted that the past few months have been full of ups and downs but insists he is mentally ready to make a fresh start.

Sooryavanshi made headlines earlier this year after earning his maiden India call-up, becoming one of the youngest cricketers to wear the national colours. However, his dream debut did not unfold as expected. The youngster struggled to convert his opportunities in England and was dropped after just three matches, a decision that sparked widespread debate among former cricketers and fans, many of whom questioned the team management’s decision to bring back Sanju Samson so quickly instead of backing the promising youngster.

Now, with Samson rested for the Zimbabwe series, Sooryavanshi is expected to return to the playing XI for the opening T20I at Harare Sports Club on Thursday. Speaking to BCCI TV ahead of the series, the left-handed batter revealed that he has remained focused on the process despite the setbacks.

“There have been several ups and downs in the last four months. It’s part of cricket, and these things will continue to happen. My focus is to follow the process and give my 100 per cent for the team,” Vaibhav Sooryavanshi said.

The youngster also praised the Indian team management for constantly supporting his development. He credited the coaching staff for ensuring he had access to everything required to improve his game, adding that he is entering the Zimbabwe series with renewed confidence. “Whatever guidance I need, the coaches are making it available. Whatever practice I require, I am getting it. I’m feeling very good and there is confidence as well,” he added.

A strong performance in Zimbabwe could prove to be a turning point in Sooryavanshi’s young international career. With immense talent already evident, the teenager knows that one impactful innings can quickly change perceptions and re-establish his place in India’s T20 plans.

Harare also holds special memories for the rising star. It was at the same venue just four months ago that Sooryavanshi played a starring role in India’s victorious Under-19 World Cup campaign. His sensational tournament earned him the Player of the Tournament award after he amassed 439 runs, underlining his reputation as one of India’s brightest batting prospects.

The highlight of that unforgettable campaign came in the final against England, where Sooryavanshi produced a breathtaking knock of 175 runs from just 80 deliveries. The explosive innings, featuring 15 fours and 15 sixes, powered India to a commanding 100-run victory and helped the team lift the Under-19 World Cup trophy in style.

Reflecting on his return to Harare, the teenager admitted that the ground will always hold a special place in his heart. “It’s a very memorable ground for me. Four months ago, we won the Under-19 World Cup here, and to return to the same venue representing the senior Indian team is a dream come true. It is a completely different feeling, and I’m really enjoying every moment,” Sooryavanshi said.

With confidence restored, familiar surroundings, and another opportunity in India’s colours, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi will be eager to silence his critics and remind everyone why he is regarded as one of the most exciting young talents in world cricket. A strong start against Zimbabwe could be the beginning of the next chapter in his rapidly growing career.
