India’s premier left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav has joined English county side Yorkshire ahead of the final phase of the domestic season, securing valuable game time after being overlooked in India’s recent white-ball assignments. The 31-year-old spinner, who did not feature in any of the three ODIs against England and was also left out of India’s squad for the upcoming T20I series against Zimbabwe, will now represent Yorkshire in both the County Championship and the One-Day Cup.

Yorkshire confirmed on Wednesday that Kuldeep will be available for five One-Day Cup matches before returning to Headingley in September to play three of the club’s final four County Championship fixtures. The move allows the experienced spinner to stay match-ready while showcasing his skills in English conditions.

Kuldeep could make his Yorkshire debut as early as Friday after being named in the squad for the One-Day Cup clash against Glamorgan at The Gnoll Cricket Ground in Neath, Wales.

Expressing his excitement over the new challenge, Kuldeep said he was honoured to represent one of England’s most historic county clubs.

“I’m really pleased to be joining Yorkshire and grateful for this opportunity. It will be a privilege to represent a club with such a proud history. I’ve always enjoyed playing in English conditions, and after speaking with the management, I became really excited about joining the team. I’m looking forward to making a positive contribution during my time at Headingley,” Kuldeep Yadav said.

Yorkshire’s General Manager of Cricket, Gavin Hamilton, welcomed the Indian spinner, describing him as a world-class addition to the squad.

“Kuldeep is an accomplished international cricketer who adds tremendous quality to our bowling attack. With the dry summer we’ve experienced, spin is expected to play a significant role during the closing stages of the season. His left-arm wrist spin gives us another dimension, and we’re delighted to have him at Yorkshire,” Hamilton said.

Kuldeep has been one of India’s most successful white-ball spinners since making his ODI debut against the West Indies in 2017. In 121 One-Day Internationals, he has claimed 194 wickets, establishing himself as a key wicket-taking option in the middle overs.

The spinner also enjoys a solid record in England, having picked up 15 wickets in 10 ODIs. With Yorkshire set to rely on spin-friendly conditions during the remainder of the season, Kuldeep will be eager to make an immediate impact and remind selectors of his quality ahead of India’s upcoming international assignments.
