India produced another disciplined bowling performance in the first T20I against Zimbabwe at the Harare Sports Club, with Ravi Bishnoi and Tilak Varma combining for a crucial breakthrough. Tilak’s well-judged catch near the boundary ended Ryan Burl’s promising knock and helped India maintain control of the contest after an impressive start with the ball.
Looking to bounce back from disappointing T20I series defeats against Ireland and England, India made an ideal start after captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and elected to bowl first. The young pace attack immediately put Zimbabwe under pressure, with Mayank Yadav and Prince Yadav exploiting the conditions to strike early inside the powerplay.
As Zimbabwe attempted to rebuild, Ravi Bishnoi delivered an important breakthrough by removing the dangerous Ryan Burl. Bowling a wide delivery outside off stump, Bishnoi tempted Burl into an attacking shot. The left-hander connected well but failed to generate enough power to clear the long-on boundary.

Tilak Varma, stationed near the ropes, judged the ball to perfection and completed a composed catch just inches inside the boundary. Burl departed after scoring 26 runs, ending a knock that threatened to shift the momentum in Zimbabwe’s favour.

The hosts struggled to cope with India’s disciplined bowling throughout the first half of the innings. Zimbabwe found it difficult to score freely against the pace of Mayank Yadav and Prince Yadav, while the spinners tightened the screws in the middle overs. At the halfway stage, the home side had slumped to 46/4, with Mayank claiming two wickets and Prince Yadav and Shivam Dube picking up one apiece.
However, Zimbabwe recovered well in the latter half of the innings through a valuable partnership between Wessly Madhevere and Tadiwanashe Marumani. The duo stitched together a half-century stand that steadied the innings after the early collapse.

Madhevere top-scored with a composed 39, while Marumani remained unbeaten on 27 to guide Zimbabwe to a competitive total of 125. Although India dominated the early exchanges, the hosts showed resilience with the bat, ensuring the visitors would have to work for victory in the opening match of the three-match T20I series.
