Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Launches Brutal Attack On Ngarava With Towering Six

Teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi lit up the Harare Sports Club with a breathtaking display of power-hitting as India began their chase of 126 against Zimbabwe in the first T20I. The 15-year-old opener took the attack to left-arm pacer Richard Ngarava, giving the visitors a flying start after India’s bowlers had restricted Zimbabwe to 125/7 in 20 overs.

Sooryavanshi wasted little time settling in. Facing Ngarava in the second over, the youngster punished anything remotely loose. A short delivery was met with a ferocious pull shot that sailed over deep backward square leg for a towering six. The Zimbabwe pacer then overpitched, and Sooryavanshi responded with a perfectly timed cover drive that raced to the boundary.

Ngarava attempted to vary his length on the next delivery, but the result was the same. Sooryavanshi stepped into the shot and launched the ball over long-off for another six, leaving the home side searching for answers against the fearless left-hander.

 

While Sooryavanshi dominated the scoring, opening partner Abhishek Sharma struggled to find his rhythm. The left-hander managed just one run from eight deliveries before edging Blessing Muzarabani to third man in the third over. Despite the early wicket, India raced to 66/1 at the end of the powerplay, with Sooryavanshi unbeaten on a stunning 48 off just 17 balls and Ishan Kishan providing solid support with 16 not out.

 

The young opener had earlier contributed in the field as well. During Zimbabwe’s innings, Sooryavanshi produced a sharp catch at mid-wicket to dismiss Ben Curran off the bowling of Prince Yadav. Attempting a pull shot against a back-of-a-length delivery, Curran failed to get the required elevation, and Sooryavanshi made no mistake with a well-judged catch.

Earlier in the day, India’s bowlers laid the platform for the chase with another disciplined performance. Wessly Madhevere top-scored for Zimbabwe with 39, while Tadiwanashe Marumani remained unbeaten on 27 to help the hosts reach 125/7. Mayank Yadav and Prince Yadav starred with two wickets each, while Shivam Dube and Ravi Bishnoi chipped in with one wicket apiece as India kept Zimbabwe under constant pressure throughout the innings.
