The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has appointed Subhadeep Ghosh as the new fielding coach of the Indian men’s cricket team, ushering in a new era for the side’s fielding department ahead of a packed international calendar. The Assam-born coach replaces T Dilip, whose tenure came to an end following India’s recently concluded white-ball tour of the United Kingdom.
A native of Digboi, Assam, Ghosh is a former first-class cricketer who represented Assam and Railways before transitioning into coaching. His first assignment with the senior men’s team will be India’s upcoming two-Test series against Sri Lanka, beginning in August, where he will look to make an immediate impact.

The appointment comes after the BCCI reviewed India’s fielding performances, which came under heavy scrutiny following a string of underwhelming displays across recent tours. Dropped catches and inconsistent ground fielding became recurring concerns, prompting the board to opt for a fresh approach ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup cycle.

Ghosh brings extensive coaching experience across multiple levels of Indian cricket. Since joining the national coaching setup in 2020, he has worked with the India women’s team, the India Under-19 squad during their successful World Cup campaign in South Africa, and the Indian men’s team at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou, where the side clinched the gold medal. Most recently, he was part of India’s support staff during the T20I tour of Zimbabwe.

His diverse coaching background, ranging from domestic cricket to junior, women’s and senior international teams, makes him one of the most experienced fielding specialists in the country. The BCCI will expect Ghosh to raise India’s fielding standards, improve catching efficiency and sharpen overall athleticism as the team prepares for a crucial phase in the international calendar.
With the Sri Lanka Test series set to mark the beginning of his tenure, all eyes will be on how Subhadeep Ghosh helps transform India’s fielding performances in the months ahead.
