Team India’s preparations for the upcoming two-Test series against Sri Lanka have been slightly adjusted, with their scheduled warm-up match against a Sri Lanka XI reduced from four days to three. According to a Cricbuzz report, the practice fixture will now be played from August 7 to 9 at the NCC Ground in Colombo, located close to the Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC), which will host the second Test.

The Indian squad is set to depart for Colombo on August 4 before beginning its final phase of preparations. Following the warm-up match, Shubman Gill’s side will travel to Galle for the opening Test, scheduled from August 15 to 19. The second and final Test of the series will take place in Colombo from August 23 to 27.

India have also received encouraging news on the fitness front. Sai Sudharsan and Jasprit Bumrah, both selected subject to medical clearance, are progressing well in their recoveries. Sudharsan has been dealing with a minor toe injury, while Bumrah is recovering from a knee issue sustained during India’s recent ODI series against England.

Both players are expected to be assessed before the squad leaves for Sri Lanka. The series is of significant importance to India’s World Test Championship 2025-27 campaign. Currently placed fifth in the standings with a points percentage of 48.15, India will be eager to secure a strong result and improve their position before tougher assignments later in the cycle.

History also favours the visitors. India and Sri Lanka have met in 46 Test matches, with India winning 22 and Sri Lanka claiming seven victories, while 17 games ended in draws. India will also take confidence from their previous Test tour of Sri Lanka in 2017, when Virat Kohli’s side completed a dominant 3-0 series whitewash.
