Rishabh Pant’s ancestral home in Pali-Amdali village of Uttarakhand’s Pithoragarh district is set for reconstruction, renewing hopes among locals that the India wicketkeeper-batter will reconnect with the place where he spent part of his childhood. Pant’s mother, Saroj Pant, visited the village on August 4 for the first time in nearly 20 years. During her five-day stay, she reportedly began looking for a contractor to rebuild the old and deteriorating family house.

The development has generated excitement among villagers, who believe the renovated property could encourage Pant to spend more time in his ancestral village. “Rishabh’s mother has initiated the reconstruction of the old house. We hope that once the house is ready, Rishabh will be able to spend more time in the village,” said Madan Mohan Pant, Pant’s uncle and a resident of Pali village.

Pant’s connection with the region dates back several decades. According to villagers, his grandfather left the area around 60 years ago in search of employment before eventually settling in Roorkee. Around two decades ago, he brought a young Rishabh to the village. Pant was around seven years old at the time and spent part of his early childhood there.

The reconstruction comes at a time when Pant appears keen to strengthen his connection with Uttarakhand. Recently, the star cricketer appealed to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami through X, seeking assistance with purchasing land in the state. Pant expressed his desire to shift his base from Delhi to Uttarakhand and return closer to his roots.

Dhami responded by calling Pant the “pride of Uttarakhand” and assured him that the state government would provide assistance according to the applicable rules. He also said officials concerned would contact the cricketer regarding his request.

While Pant’s plans have generated excitement, residents of Pali-Amdali also hope his renewed connection with the region will bring greater attention to local infrastructure. Villagers pointed out that the approximately 11-kilometre road leading to the area needs to be paved. Pant’s ancestral home is situated around 1.5 kilometres from the existing road and requires better connectivity.

Village head Vinod Kumar believes Pant’s return could have a strong impact on youngsters in the area. “If Rishabh visits the village after the house is built, it will inspire local youth and instil a sense of pride across the entire region,” he said.

Another of Pant’s uncles, Lalit Pant, said the reconstruction reflects the cricketer’s enduring connection with his roots and Uttarakhand’s hill region. For the people of Pithoragarh, Pant’s efforts to reconnect with his ancestral home represent more than a family project, with locals hoping his return will inspire the next generation.
