Rishabh Pant created history on Day 4 of the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle, becoming the fastest batter ever to reach 100 sixes in Test cricket. The India wicketkeeper-batter achieved the landmark on Tuesday, August 18, eight years after making his Test debut against England in Nottingham.

Pant entered the match needing two sixes to reach the milestone. After hitting one maximum in the first innings during his 39-run knock, he completed the landmark in spectacular fashion during India’s second innings.
The 28-year-old brought up his 100th Test six with a powerful hook over fine leg against Lahiru Kumara. Earlier in the same over, Pant had launched another delivery over long-off for six, forcing Sri Lanka to change the ball. He then reached his half-century in just 53 deliveries. Pant has now become only the fourth batter in Test history to hit 100 sixes, joining an elite list featuring Adam Gilchrist, Brendon McCullum, and Ben Stokes. Stokes remains the leading six-hitter in Test cricket with 138 maximums.

However, Rishabh Pant has set himself apart by reaching the landmark in the fewest deliveries. He required only 4,918 balls to hit his first 100 Test sixes, comfortably surpassing Gilchrist’s previous record of 6,578 deliveries. Stokes reached the milestone in 9,042 balls, while McCullum took 9,756.
Rishabh Pant stepped out and sent that one straight into the Galle skyline. 🚀
