Ravindra Jadeja endured another disappointing outing with the bat as India continued to dominate Sri Lanka in the first Test at the Galle International Cricket Stadium. The veteran all-rounder was dismissed for just nine runs in India’s second innings, with substitute fielder Pasindu Sooriyabandara taking an excellent catch.

India, after winning the toss, posted a commanding 462 in their first innings. Sri Lanka initially struggled badly against India’s bowling attack before Sonal Dinusha and Niroshan Dickwella produced a crucial partnership to help the hosts avoid the follow-on. Dinusha scored 100, while Dickwella contributed 80 as Sri Lanka fought back.

Jadeja came to the crease during India’s second innings but could not make a significant impact. Batting on nine, he faced Lahiru Kumara in the 42nd over. On the third delivery, Jadeja attempted to play the ball but managed only a top edge.

The ball travelled towards deep backward square leg, where Sooriyabandara showed excellent awareness and athleticism. The substitute fielder moved quickly to his left before diving forward and completing a sharp two-handed catch.

Jadeja walked back after scoring nine runs from 19 deliveries, adding to a disappointing performance with the bat. He had managed only 13 runs from 25 balls in India’s first innings.

The dismissal came at a crucial stage for Sri Lanka, but India remained firmly in control. The visitors had already built a lead of more than 350 runs, leaving the hosts with a mountain to climb.

While Jadeja’s contribution with the bat was limited, his overall value to India remained significant, particularly with his bowling and all-round abilities. Sri Lanka, meanwhile, needed wickets quickly to prevent India from setting an imposing target in Galle.
