Abhishek Sharma Creates Record With Fastest Century By An Indian in T20Is

Abhishek Sharma produced a stunning batting display against Afghanistan in the third T20I at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Thursday, smashing the fastest T20I century by an Indian batter. The left-hander reached his hundred in just 30 balls, breaking Rohit Sharma’s long-standing record.

Rohit had previously held the record for the fastest T20I century by an Indian, reaching the milestone in 35 deliveries against Sri Lanka in 2017. Abhishek bettered that mark in spectacular fashion as he tore apart the Afghanistan bowling attack.

By the time he completed his century, Abhishek had smashed 10 sixes and nine boundaries, with India reaching 132/0 after 8.3 overs. Afghanistan captain Ibrahim Zadran had opted to field after winning the toss, but his bowlers struggled to contain India’s aggressive opening pair.

Abhishek appeared set for an even bigger score and had enough time to potentially double his century. However, Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan eventually ended his breathtaking innings in the 10th over, dismissing the Indian opener for 108 off just 34 balls.

 

 

Despite missing out on a potentially huge score, Abhishek created another piece of T20I history. He became the first batter to score two T20I centuries in fewer than 40 balls. His previous hundred came against England at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai in 2025, when he reached three figures in 37 deliveries.

The innings also took Abhishek to three centuries in men’s T20 cricket for India, further underlining his impact at the top of the order.
