Prasidh Krishna has established himself as one of India’s leading fast bowlers in ODI cricket in 2026. The right-arm pacer has taken 15 wickets in eight ODIs this year, making him India’s leading wicket-taker in the format during the period. Prasidh continued his impressive run in the first ODI against the West Indies in Thiruvananthapuram. He finished with figures of 2/60 from 10 overs, dismissing Keacy Carty and Roston Chase as the visitors posted 295/7 in their allotted 50 overs.
The 29-year-old made his ODI debut in 2021 but has become a more regular member of India’s setup in 2026. Speaking after the series opener, Prasidh credited the team environment, clear roles and continuous improvement for his consistency with the ball.
“Every single session we go in, we are looking to improve at something. And every game as well poses a different kind of a challenge. When you come in knowing what exactly has to be done, there is clarity within the team, there is clarity in me as to what I do when I come in,” Prasidh Krishna said, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.
The first ODI also witnessed a major milestone for Virat Kohli, who scored his 55th ODI century and became only the second batter in history to cross 15,000 runs in the format.

Prasidh Krishan admitted that watching Kohli produce another match-winning performance was a special moment for the Indian dressing room. “Sitting outside we were thinking, what do we bowl to him at that moment? He was striking the ball really, really well. All of us have grown up watching Virat Kohli and to see him do what he did today was unbelievable,” he said.
Prasidh has now taken 50 wickets in ODI cricket at an average of 26.62, with best figures of 5/23. His maiden five-wicket haul came against Afghanistan earlier in 2026. The West Indies clash was his 29th ODI appearance, highlighting how his role has increased during the current year.

The pacer also highlighted the importance of communication within the Indian team, particularly his existing understanding with Gujarat Titans teammate Gurnoor Brar. The pair have spent two seasons together in the IPL, helping them develop a strong rapport.
Meanwhile, India have considerable fast-bowling depth ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup. Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna, Gurnoor Brar, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Hardik Pandya and Harshit Rana are among the options available to the selectors.
