Virat Kohli put down a crucial catch during the second ODI between India and West Indies at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Wednesday, September 30. The missed opportunity came off Naman Dhir’s bowling and denied the young all-rounder a chance to claim his maiden ODI wicket for India. Shai Hope had already survived an earlier chance before Kohli missed another opportunity. Hope was on 27 when Dhir induced an aerial shot towards short mid-wicket, but Kohli could not complete the catch as the ball went through his hands.
Shai Hope had received his first reprieve in the 12th over while facing Kuldeep Yadav. The left-arm wrist-spinner bowled a leg-break outside off, and Hope pushed at the delivery with hard hands. The ball popped towards Kuldeep, who moved quickly to his left and attempted a low one-handed catch. However, it struck his palm and fell safely.
The second chance arrived in the 20th over when Dhir bowled a fullish delivery to Hope. The West Indies batter played the ball towards short mid-wicket, where Kohli attempted to complete the catch using the reverse-cupped technique. However, the ball burst through his hands, allowing Hope and his partner to run two.

The dropped catch was particularly disappointing for Dhir, who was playing only his second ODI for India and searching for his first international wicket in the format.

Kohli had enjoyed a memorable outing in the first ODI, scoring an unbeaten 139 off 88 balls during India’s eight-wicket victory. The knock brought up his 55th ODI century and also took him beyond 15,000 runs in the format. Guwahati has been a productive venue for the former India captain, who scored 140 against West Indies at the same ground in 2018.
Meanwhile, John Campbell produced a stunning performance for West Indies in the second ODI, smashing 101 off just 68 balls. The opener reached his second ODI century, more than seven years after his previous hundred against Ireland in May 2019.

Campbell brought up his fifty from just 29 balls, surpassing Chris Gayle’s previous record of 30 balls for the fastest half-century by a West Indies batter against India in ODIs.
He then completed his century in only 65 balls, breaking Ricardo Powell’s previous mark of 72 balls for the fastest West Indies hundred against India. Campbell’s innings also placed him among the fastest century-makers in West Indies ODI history, underlining the explosive nature of his knock in Guwahati.
