India opener Sanju Samson answered questions over his place in the T20I side with a sensational batting display against the West Indies in the second match of the five-game series in Ranchi. Samson had faced scrutiny following four disappointing outings, with 15-year-old batting sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi waiting for an opportunity on the bench. The pressure was mounting, but the experienced opener responded emphatically, bringing up his half-century in just 21 balls. The right-hander took the attack to his Chennai Super Kings (CSK) teammate Akeal Hosein during the fifth over.

Sanju Samson struck the left-arm spinner for two sixes and two boundaries, setting the tone for an aggressive innings. He eventually finished with nine fours and four sixes at a remarkable strike rate of 200. His performance sparked widespread reactions on social media, with several fans praising his approach and commitment to the team. One user highlighted Samson’s selfless batting, noting that he continued to play positively despite the pressure surrounding his place in the side.

While Samson looked in excellent touch, he also benefited from two dropped catches during his innings. Kamil Pooran missed a straightforward chance at cover off Akeal Hosein in the third over when Samson was batting on six.

The Indian opener received another reprieve on 42 during the powerplay, when Gudakesh Motie failed to hold on to a catch at mid-off off Romario Shepherd’s bowling. The missed opportunities allowed Samson to capitalise and build a match-defining innings.

With a century seemingly within reach, Samson was eventually dismissed in the 15th over by Shamar Springer. The pacer deceived him with a slower bouncer outside off stump as Samson attempted to clear deep backward point. Pooran completed the catch, bringing his entertaining knock to an end.
