Delhi Capitals have strengthened their coaching staff ahead of IPL 2027 by appointing former Sri Lanka fast bowler Chaminda Vaas as their new fast-bowling coach. The franchise confirmed the appointment through its official X account on Saturday morning, adding another experienced name to its support staff for the upcoming season.

Vaas will work under former India captain Sourav Ganguly, who was appointed Delhi Capitals’ head coach earlier this month. The franchise has also brought in former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh as assistant and batting coach, with his appointment confirmed on October 13. The additions underline DC’s efforts to build an experienced coaching unit ahead of the next IPL campaign.

Widely regarded as one of Sri Lanka’s finest fast bowlers, Vaas has considerable experience both as a player and a coach. During his playing career, he represented Deccan Chargers in the IPL, claiming 18 wickets in 13 matches across three seasons between 2008 and 2010.

Vaas was also part of the Deccan Chargers squad that won the 2009 IPL title in South Africa. Led by Adam Gilchrist, the franchise defeated Anil Kumble’s Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the final to secure its maiden championship. Although Vaas has previously worked with the Sri Lankan national team in a coaching capacity, his appointment at Delhi Capitals marks his first coaching role in the IPL.

The former left-arm pacer enjoyed an impressive 15-year international career from 1994 to 2009. He represented Sri Lanka in 111 Tests, 322 ODIs and six T20Is, taking 355 wickets in Tests and 400 in ODIs, alongside six T20I wickets. Vaas also contributed with the bat, scoring 3,089 Test runs and 2,025 ODI runs, including a Test century and 13 half-centuries.

Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals have continued reshaping their squad ahead of the IPL 2027 auction. The franchise secured the return of former captain Rishabh Pant in a trade deal with Lucknow Super Giants, after his stint with LSG. The trade involved Kuldeep Yadav, according to the supplied report.

DC also signed Uttar Pradesh spinner Zeeshan Ansari from Sunrisers Hyderabad in a trade involving T Natarajan. Zeeshan will join Delhi, while Natarajan is set to return to SRH for the 2027 season. With fresh coaching appointments and squad changes, Delhi Capitals will hope to mount a stronger challenge in the upcoming IPL.
