Prasidh Krishna’s availability for India’s upcoming five-match ODI series against New Zealand remains uncertain as the fast bowler continues his recovery from a hamstring injury. The 30-year-old sustained the injury during India’s recent three-match ODI series against the West Indies at home, and the BCCI medical team is closely monitoring his rehabilitation. Although Krishna has resumed bowling during training, questions remain over whether he has regained the match fitness required for international cricket. He is currently undergoing rehabilitation at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru and has not featured in any of Karnataka’s first three Ranji Trophy matches despite being named in the state squad.

According to media reports, Krishna participated in match simulations on October 22 and 24. However, the medical team has scheduled another round of simulations for November 1 and 2 to assess his progress further. With the India vs New Zealand ODI series beginning on November 4, these sessions could prove decisive in determining his availability.
Cricket journalist Nitin K Srivastav also raised questions about the fast bowler’s recovery, pointing out that the additional match simulations could indicate that the CoE is still assessing his readiness for competitive cricket. Krishna was initially selected for the first three ODIs against New Zealand, followed by the two-match Test series on the tour. India will announce a separate squad for the final two ODIs, with players selected for the Test matches expected to be rested.

If Prasidh Krishna fails to recover in time, India could consider Auqib Nabi, Yash Thakur or Gurnoor Brar as potential replacements. All three fast bowlers are understood to be part of India’s wider plans for the New Zealand tour. The uncertainty surrounding Krishna’s fitness is another setback in a career that has been interrupted by several injuries, including a lumbar stress fracture and quadriceps and hamstring problems. Despite these challenges, he has established himself as a valuable pace option across formats.
Prasidh Krishna underwent match simulations on October 22 & 24, and now he has been asked for another round scheduled for November 1 & 2.
Is everything alright with his recovery, or is the COE still not fully convinced about his match fitness? With the NZ ODIs starting November 4, his availability is a growing concern.— Nitin K Srivastav (@Nitin_sachin) October 27, 2026
Prasidh Krishna has claimed 53 wickets in 30 ODIs, with best figures of 5/23, and 32 wickets in nine Test matches. His IPL record includes 90 wickets in 78 appearances, while he has taken 136 wickets in 37 first-class matches. He has also collected nine wickets in eight T20Is for India.
His potential absence would be a concern for India’s bowling plans, particularly as the team prepares for a demanding overseas schedule. The medical team’s final assessment following the November 1 and 2 simulations is expected to provide greater clarity on his readiness.

Meanwhile, India recently produced a record-breaking batting performance in the third T20I against New Zealand in Wellington. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi scored 45 off 19 balls, while Abhishek Sharma smashed 113 off 38 deliveries as India chased down 199 in just 13.2 overs.
Their 133-run opening partnership came in only 7.1 overs. India also recorded 118 runs in the powerplay and reached 100 in five overs, setting new benchmarks in men’s T20I cricket. As the teams prepare for the ODI series, Krishna’s fitness will remain an important selection question for the Indian management.
