The International Cricket Council (ICC) has fined Pakistan fast bowler Haris Rauf 20% of his match fee following an on-field confrontation with England all-rounder Will Jacks during their tri-nation ODI series match on October 25. Although Pakistan secured a thrilling one-wicket victory, Rauf’s conduct attracted disciplinary action under the ICC Code of Conduct.

Rauf was found guilty of a Level 1 offence under Article 2.2, which covers inappropriate conduct during an international match. Along with the financial penalty, the Pakistan pacer received one demerit point, taking his reported total to five points within a 24-month period.
The incident occurred during the 46th over of Pakistan’s innings, when Rauf was stationed at the non-striker’s end. After appealing for a wide delivery, he became involved in a heated exchange with Jacks. Rauf reportedly raised his bat during the argument and continued the confrontation despite a warning from umpire Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid.

The fast bowler then moved towards Jacks, prompting the ICC to take disciplinary action over his behaviour. The penalty adds to the pressure on Rauf, who remains an important part of Pakistan’s pace attack.
England also faced sanctions following the match for maintaining a slow over-rate. The team was found to be three overs short of the required rate, resulting in a fine equivalent to 15% of the players’ match fees under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct.

England captain Harry Brook accepted the charge, eliminating the need for a formal hearing. The sanction came despite England pushing Pakistan to the brink of defeat during the contest. Batting first, England set Pakistan a target of 242 runs. Pakistan struggled during the chase and slipped to 154/9, leaving England in a commanding position and seemingly close to sealing victory.
However, Shadab Khan produced a remarkable counter-attacking performance to turn the match around. The Pakistan all-rounder remained unbeaten on 113, guiding his side to a dramatic one-wicket win with 17 balls remaining.

Shadab’s match-winning innings ensured Pakistan escaped a difficult situation and kept their campaign on track. Nevertheless, Rauf’s confrontation with Jacks and the subsequent ICC penalty became major talking points after the game. While Pakistan celebrated a memorable victory, the disciplinary action served as a reminder that players must maintain appropriate conduct on the field, regardless of the pressure of a closely contested international match.
