India fast bowler Prasidh Krishna has been ruled out of the upcoming three-match ODI series against New Zealand after failing to recover fully from a hamstring injury. The setback means the 30-year-old will have to wait longer for another opportunity to establish himself in India’s playing XI. The BCCI has not announced a replacement for the pacer.

Prasidh will now focus on regaining full fitness ahead of the two-match Test series against New Zealand. However, the team management is unwilling to rush his return, given his history of injury concerns. The Karnataka pacer is expected to join the India A squad for the third and final four-day match against New Zealand A, subject to clearing his Return to Play (RTP) assessment.

His latest injury adds to a series of fitness setbacks that have interrupted his career. Prasidh last represented India in the second ODI against the West Indies in Guwahati on September 30. He bowled five overs, conceding 45 runs and taking one wicket, before leaving the field with a hamstring issue. Further assessments confirmed the injury, ruling him out of the series decider.

The fast bowler has also endured difficult periods in the IPL, missing the 2023 and 2024 editions due to a lumbar stress fracture and a quadriceps tendon injury, respectively. However, he made an impressive comeback in 2025 while representing Gujarat Titans, claiming 25 wickets to finish as the tournament’s leading wicket-taker.

Prasidh has also featured in all three of India’s Test matches this year, including the contest against Afghanistan and the two-match series in Sri Lanka. Meanwhile, all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy will remain with India’s ODI squad for the series opener on November 4 before joining India A for the final four-day fixture against New Zealand A.

The move will provide him with valuable red-ball preparation ahead of the Test series. He will miss the second and third ODIs. Mohammed Siraj, meanwhile, is scheduled to join India A for the second four-day match against New Zealand A, beginning October 31.
