During the 43rd match of the 11th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Jaipur, Chennai Super Kings’ Harbhajan Singh bowled an eventful over in the powerplay which saw him going for 15 runs but coming back to break the opening partnership.
After MS Dhoni won the toss and chose to bat, Chennai Super Kings scored 176-4 in their allotted quota of 20 overs. Suresh Raina, who came in to bat at No. 3 in the third over, top-scored for his team as he scored his 34th IPL half-century.
In the second innings, Rajasthan Royals were seen dominating the chase from the first ball itself. Jos Buttler had taken on his England-teammate in David Willey to score 13 runs in the first over. Harbhajan Singh shared the ball alongside Willey.
Buttler started Harbhajan’s second over by whipping a boundary off the first ball through the mid-wicket region. On the third delivery of the over, the umpire had given ‘out’ as the soft signal after Dhoni grabbed a one-handed catch to dismiss Ben Stokes. However, replays confirmed that the ball had touched the ground after hitting the bat.
On the next ball, Harbhajan induced an inside edge from Stokes’ bat which went to the fine-leg boundary for a four. On the penultimate delivery of the over, Stokes hit his first six as he sat down on one knee to send the ball back to the mid-wicket stands.
Harbhajan came back from behind to bowled Stokes on the last ball of the over after the batsman stepped out to use the long handle again. Stokes ended up scoring 11 (7) with the help of one four and one six.
