On Saturday night, the hosts Delhi Daredevils (DD) suffered a defeat by 5 wickets (with 6 balls to spare) against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at Feroz Shah Kotla (Delhi).
RCB captain Virat Kohli decided to field first after winning the toss. With the help of Rishabh Pant and Abhishek Sharma’s powerful knocks, DD put a total of 181/4 in 20 overs.
In reply, Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers’ responsible knocks helped the away team to claim a victory as they reached the target in 19 overs after losing 5 wickets.
Now, we will briefly talk about some important reasons for DD’s defeat in this game.
Early opening failure
Delhi Openers Prithvi Shaw (2 runs) and Jason Roy (12 runs) were dismissed under the first three overs which put the hosts under trouble. While DD was looking for a good start, they went down 16/2 in 2.4 overs. However, skipper Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant soon took the control of that innings by putting a superb 93-run partnership.
Though Delhi managed to overcome from their early opening batting failure, the total didn’t enough for them to claim a victory. A good opening start could provide some more runs on the board which could ultimately lead them to a victory.

Failed to take the advantage of the good start during RCB’s innings
Chasing down the 182-run target, RCB openers also departed early as Parthiv Patel and Moeen Ali were dismissed for just 6 and 1 run respectively. However, soon skipper Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers rescued the team form the difficult condition.
It was the good start for the hosts to defend the total but their bowlers failed to hold the momentum for the long-term as their bowling was ineffective.

Kohli-de Villiers’ responsible batting
RCB cricketer AB de Villiers and skipper Virat Kohli played the responsible innings to secure the victory. They put a brilliant 118-run partnership for the third wicket which set the momentum for them.
While Kohli was dismissed after playing a superb responsible knock of 70 runs off 40 balls, de Villiers took the responsibility to finish the game and he succeeded on that as he remained unbeaten on 72 runs off 37 balls.
