During the 52nd match of the 11th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) between Delhi Daredevils (DD) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Delhi, Delhi Daredevils beat Chennai Super Kings by 34 runs to register their fourth win of the season.

After MS Dhoni, captain of Chennai Super Kings, won the toss and put the home team in to bat, Delhi Daredevils scored 162-5 in their allotted quota of 20 overs. Harshal Patel and Vijay Shankar’s late surge aided their team to post a decent total on the board.

In the second innings, Chennai Super Kings’ other batsmen and Ambati Rayudu seemed to be at a variance for both batted in quite a different manner. The opposition’s bowlers did not give many chances, due to which Chennai’s batting line-up lost track of the 163-run chase, a target which they were expected to chase down comfortably. They eventually scored 128-6 in 20 overs.

Now, we will look at the hits and flops players in this match.

Hits

Harshal Patel in action.

Harshal Patel (DD) – Coming in to bat at No. 7 in the 15th over, Harshal Patel put life into Daredevils’ innings. He hit three sixes in the last over of the innings to change the course of the match. He ended up scoring 36* (16) with the help of one four and four sixes. With the ball in hand, he registered bowling figures of 4-0-23-1. Having dismissed Ambati Rayudu (50), he had put a dent to the oppositions’s progress. He was adjourned the ‘Man of the Match’.

Ambati Rayudu

Ambati Rayudu (CSK) – Opening the batting with Shane Watson, Ambati Rayudu was unmatched at one end tonight. In conditions where the other batsmen were struggling, he scored his 17th IPL half-century, 50 (29), with the help of four fours and four sixes.

Mishra broke the 76-run opening stand.

Amit Mishra (DD) – Introduced late into the attack, Amit Mishra used his experience to not let the Super Kings’ batsmen dominate the game. Picking up the wickets of Shane Watson (14) and Sam Billings (1), he registered bowling figures of 4-0-20-2.

Flops

Glenn Maxwell

Glenn Maxwell (DD) – Brought into the playing eleven in place of Jason Roy, Glenn Maxwell went through another disheartening outing in the middle. Playing an ordinary shot to get out against Ravindra Jadeja, he ended up scoring 5 (7).

Suresh Raina

Suresh Raina (CSK) –  Suresh Raina had come in to bat at No. 3 in the seventh over when Shane Watson was dismissed on 14. Raina was initially seen being very watchful. However, in getting his eye in, his strike rate dipped considerably. He ended up scoring a below par 15 (18).

MS Dhoni (CSK) – Coming in to bat at No. 4 in the 11th over, MS Dhoni was expected to chase down this target. However, he failed to do so after not able to score quick runs at all.
