India begins their lengthy England tour in a thrashing way after beating the hosts England by 8 wickets (with 10 balls remaining) in the first T20I of three-match T20I series at Old Trafford (Manchester) on Tuesday.

Indian captain Virat Kohli decided to field first after winning the toss. Despite a good start, England was restricted to 159/8 in 20 overs due to Kuldeep Yadav’s brilliant five-wicket haul.

In reply, thanks to KL Rahul’s unbeaten century, India chased down that target comfortably in 18.2 overs after losing just two wickets. With this victory in the first T20I, India has taken a 0-1 lead in the three-match T20I series.

  • The second highest T20I knock by an English wicketkeeper-batsman. The record holder is also Jos Buttler with 73* against Sri Lanka at Southampton on July 5, 2016.

 

ii) At the end of the match, Indian wicketkeeper MS Dhoni has made 33 T20I stumpings.

  • Most number of stumpings made in the T20I career by any wicketkeeper. Dhoni surpassed Pakistan wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal who has made 32 T20I stumpings.

iii) Three English batsmen scored the ducks and all the dismissals were golden ducks.

  • Second time in T20I history when three or more English batsmen scored the ducks in a T20I innings. On February 1, 2017, total five English batsmen scored the ducks in a T20I innings against India at Bengaluru.

 

iv) Indian batsmen Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul put 123 runs partnership for the second wicket.

  • Highest individual knock in a T20I match between England and India. The previous record was 71 by Eoin Morgan (England) and KL Rahul (India).
  • It was KL Rahul’s second T20I century. He is the second Indian batsman to hit more than one T20I century. Rohit Sharma was the first Indian to achieve this feat as he has scored two T20I centuries.
  • Also, it was KL Rahul’s second T20I century during chasing. He becomes the first ever batsman to score more than one T20I century at chasing.

v) Indian batsman KL Rahul scored 101*.

  • It was KL Rahul’s second T20I century. He is the second Indian batsman to hit more than one T20I century. Rohit Sharma was the first Indian to achieve this feat as he has scored two T20I centuries.
  • Also, it was KL Rahul’s second T20I century during chasing. He becomes the first ever batsman to score more than one T20I century at chasing.

 

vi) Playing his 56 T20I innings, Indian skipper Virat Kohli (2,012 runs) completed his 2,000 T20I runs.

  • Fastest to complete 2,000 T20I runs. He is the first Indian batsman and fourth overall batsman to complete 2,000 T20I runs.

vii) India won this match by 8 wickets.

  • India’s first T20I victory against England in England. Previously, they played thrice in England where England won every game.
