Boycott underwent a surgery on June 27. He spent 10 days in a hospital at Leeds, mostly in the Cardiac Critical Care Unit. After that successful operation and later the successful observation period, the doctors now gave him permission to return home to recover from that invasive surgery.

His daughter Emma Boycott has revealed this news through her father’s official Twitter account. She also added that her father will miss commentating at the beginning of the Test series between the hosts England and the visitors India, starting from August 1. She is hoping that her father will be back to the commentary room from the third Test of the series that will be played at Trent Bridge (Nottingham), which will begin on August 18.

Emma posted, “My father, Geoffrey Boycott, had quadruple bypass open heart surgery on Wednesday June 27. He spent 10 days in hospital in Leeds, with most of that time in the Cardiac Critical Care unit. The surgeon says the operation was a success and has now allowed him home to recover from the invasive surgery. This will take some time so he will not be commentating at the start of the England v India Test Match series but hopes to be back at work for the 3rd Test Match at.”

After making an international debut in 1964, Boycott had a successful international cricketing career. As a specialized opening right-handed batsman, Boycott played 108 Tests and 36 ODIs where he scored 8,114 runs and 1,082 runs respectively. As a right-arm medium part-time bowler, Boycott also picked up 12 international wickets.

Boycott led the England national side in only 6 international matches (4 Tests and 2 ODIs) where England won three matches (only Test and 2 ODIs).

After taking retirement from the cricket, Boycott became a commentator and he has become successful in that role too.
