Earlier this year, the young and emerging Pakistani batsman Ahmed Shehzad had failed a drug test, something that saw him lose out on his place in the national squad. Not playing Test matches for his country, Shehzad was eventually replaced by the uncanny Imam-ul-Haq, and with the proceedings expecting to continue, the former has decided not to appeal the charges against him.

While many are indeed surprised by Ahmed’s decision on not challenging the decision, one thing is quite clear – that he is indeed guilty of the same. Many also believe that the opener may well get a lighter sentence and lower sanctions should he plead guilty of the charges filed against him.

Reports from several leading publications in Pakistan have stated that Shehzad will not b requesting the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) not to test the ‘B’ sample he had submitted while the deadline for the same expired on June 19. The proceedings are scheduled to start from the 27th of July where Shehzad has been asked to be present in front of the panel and the PCB will decide upon the punishments to be imposed on him as per the guidelines of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).

Further reports have emerged that the PCB is in the process of creating a charge sheet as Ahmed Shehzad had failed a drugs test during a domestic cricket match played in Faisalabad. He played his last ODI for Pakistan in October 2017 against Sri Lanka, has made 2605 runs with an average of 32.56 in 81 ODIs that he has played so far.

At the moment, the Pakistan cricket team is on tour to Zimbabwe where they have been winning matches more often than expected. At the moment, the opening pair of Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq has been fulfilling the job for Sarfraz Ahmed quite aptly.
