In the reply of India’s first innings total 649/9 decl., Windies started the day on their overnight score 94/6. Both the unbeaten overnight batsmen Roston Chase and Keemo Paul started the day on a good note and put a 73-run partnership for the seventh wicket. Both were the only batsmen in that innings to reach the 20-run marks as Chase scored 53 off 79 balls (8 fours) while Paul was dismissed on 47 runs off 49 balls (7 fours and 2 sixes).

After that partnership was broken, Windies were bundled out soon on 181 runs in their first innings as they were 468 runs behind from India’s first innings total.

Among the Indian bowlers, Ravichandran Ashwin (4/37) picked up four wickets while Mohammed Shami (2/22) got two wickets and Umesh Yadav (1/20), Ravindra Jadeja (1/22) and Kuldeep Yadav (1/62) claimed one wicket each.

Indian skipper Virat Kohli decided to force the visitors for follow-on as Windies had to bat on again. Apart from the opener Kieran Powell and the no.6 batsman Roston Chase, none of Windies batsmen reached the 20-run marks. This time, Powell played a brilliant innings of 83 runs (93 balls; 8 fours and 4 sixes) but he didn’t get any support from the other batsmen as the second highest score in that innings was just 20 by Chase. Windies were bundled out for just 196 runs in that innings and faced a big defeat by an innings and 272 runs.
