The hosts’ Indian cricket team clinched a dominating victory over Windies in the first Test of two-match Test series at Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium (Rajkot). On the day three of the first Test, India clinched a victory by an innings and 272 runs and also took the 1-0 lead of this series after the Windies batsmen surrendered on the front of Indian bowlers.
In the reply of India’s first innings total 649/9 decl., Windies started the day on their overnight score 94/6. Both the unbeaten overnight batsmen Roston Chase and Keemo Paul started the day on a good note and put a 73-run partnership for the seventh wicket. Both were the only batsmen in that innings to reach the 20-run marks as Chase scored 53 off 79 balls (8 fours) while Paul was dismissed on 47 runs off 49 balls (7 fours and 2 sixes).
After that partnership was broken, Windies were bundled out soon on 181 runs in their first innings as they were 468 runs behind from India’s first innings total.
Among the Indian bowlers, Ravichandran Ashwin (4/37) picked up four wickets while Mohammed Shami (2/22) got two wickets and Umesh Yadav (1/20), Ravindra Jadeja (1/22) and Kuldeep Yadav (1/62) claimed one wicket each.
Indian skipper Virat Kohli decided to force the visitors for follow-on as Windies had to bat on again. Apart from the opener Kieran Powell and the no.6 batsman Roston Chase, none of Windies batsmen reached the 20-run marks. This time, Powell played a brilliant innings of 83 runs (93 balls; 8 fours and 4 sixes) but he didn’t get any support from the other batsmen as the second highest score in that innings was just 20 by Chase. Windies were bundled out for just 196 runs in that innings and faced a big defeat by an innings and 272 runs.
During Windies’ second innings, Indian left-arm chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav claimed his maiden five-wicket haul in a Test innings as his bowling figure in that innings was 14-2-57-5. Also, Ravindra Jadeja (3/35) and Ravichandran Ashwin (2/71) bagged three and two wickets respectively.
After the very one-sided victory for the hosts, Indian debutant opener Prithvi Shaw won the Player of the Match award for his brilliant century.

So 8 sessions is all it took. That’s as clinical as it gets. Really impressed with the all-round bowling effort. #IndvWI

Well done to the #ICC umpires on clamping down on frequent visits of substitutes with drinks onto the field in this Test. Showed a marked improvement in the pace of the match & over rates.

This is where you question the sanctity of International runs/wickets. India and West Indies are in a different league….perhaps, should be playing in a different league too. #IndvWI

In just over a day, the West Indies, sorry the Windies, have been bowled out twice on a perfectly good pitch. Just another illustration of the problems facing our game.

That’s too easy a win. Batting twice, WI couldn’t cross the follow- on score. Will remember this for Shaw and Pant’s fearlessness

Sad to see this situation of West Indies cricket.. there was a time when people fear playing against them.. hope they do get some good players and compete at international level.. https://t.co/9UK1F2FUMU

I guess, next indian cricket team should travel to Nepal, to play a test series with them, in order to get well prepared, and mentally tough, well before leaving for Australia, for a very long and tough battle . 😁😁

To be honest, there was nothing to loose for windies but everything to learn. Hope they bounce back stronger. Although it's not gonna happen but we can still hope so.#INDvsWI

Not even seeing a new ball in your last 7 innings in India is something that is very sad to see! More power to you @windiescricket Learn from your mistakes! Bring back the old Caribbean era! #INDvsWI @ICC @BCCI
