With his top-consistent performances in the recent domestic and other professional cricket, Mayank Agarwal is consistently knocking the selectors’ door to get an opportunity in the national team. While he still has been ignored, Mayank recently claimed that the selectors had a word with him on this matter.

Currently, the 27-year-old right-handed top-order Karnataka batsman Mayank Agarwal is one of the most in-form batsmen in Indian domestic cricket. In the last domestic season (2017/18), he was the leading run-scorer both in the Ranji Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy as he scored 1,160 runs (average 105.45) and 723 runs (average 90.37) respectively.

Mayank has continued his tremendous batting form in the new ongoing season. Getting consistent chances for India A, Mayank has proved his potential for the bigger and wider stages too. Most experts and former cricketers feel that it is the right time for this right-handed top-order batsman to make his international cricket debut.

After a long wait, Mayank also earned his maiden call-up in the national team during recently concluded the two-match home Test series against Windies but he wasn’t selected in the playing XI in both Tests.

Now, Mayank has been ignored in the ongoing home ODI series against Windies or in some future international cricket series, including the four-match Test series on the Australia tour. However, he has earned an opportunity to play for India A that will tour in New Zealand in next month to play the first-class and List A matches against New Zealand A. Mayank is in both the squads.

While some national team players have recently blasted out over the team management and the selectors for their lack of proper communications, Mayank claimed the selectors had a word with him about his exclusion from the Test squad.

The top-order batsman has claimed that the former Indian captain and present India A and India U19 head coach Rahul Dravid turns him up in these tough situations.

Talking about his mindset for the upcoming New Zealand tour where he will feature for India A, Mayank told Timesnownews.com, “I am going to play to the best of my ability like I play every game of cricket.”

Apart from being a top-order batsman, Mayank is also focusing to become an effective off-spinner to add more spices to his resume. He has taken three wickets in the first-class career.

Mayank said on this, “Yes I do bowl (off-spin) a bit but yes I am going to take it up seriously. I do make sure that I bowl about 45 minutes to an hour in the nets every day.”
