There is nothing new when it comes to the rivalry between India and Australia as the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy has already witnessed quite a number of controversies and some before that as well. With the increase in intensity with each passing game, players from either side rarely give the opposition an inch on the field. Peter Handscomb’s controversial catch to dismiss Virat Kohli in the Perth Test is one such example. However, On Saturday, KL Rahul did a great job by showing some sportsmanship in the intense battle.

Despite all these banters and controversies, Rahul gave a great testimony of the fact that cricket is still a gentlemen’s game. The India star, who has faced an immense amount of criticism for his woeful run with the bat, signaled that the ball had bounced before he caught the ball while trying to take a diving catch. The incident had occurred in the fifteenth over of Australia’s first innings when their opener Marcus Harris miscued a fuller delivery from Ravindra Jadeja towards mid-on.

Rahul came running in and dived across to catch the ball. At first, it was looking like he has taken an impeccable catch as Jadeja ran towards him to celebrate. But Rahul was quick to signal that the catch was not clean before the replays showed he was right. It was an incredible moment and even the crowd and umpire Ian Gould applauded the player for his honesty on the field.

After letting the Indian team amass a mammoth score of 622 for 7 in the first innings, Australia has started their innings on a strong note. Starting the third day on 24/o, Usman Khawaja and Harris shared a 72-run partnership before the former departed for 27. Harris and Marnus Labuschagne then ensured that the hosts do not lose any more wicket in the first session. But, later they ended the day on a demoralizing note as they lost 6 wickets before the rain interruption.
