Former Indian Cricketer Jacob Martin Is Out Of ICU

Former Indian player Jacob Martin’s condition is now stable and he is off the ventilator. He met in a car accident on December 27 and spend over one month in Intensive Care Unit (ICU). He injured his lungs and liver in that brutal accident and his condition was critical.

The Hospital expenses were increasing every day and once it crossed the 70,000 per day mark, his wife wrote a letter to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and asked for some financial help. After this news breaks out, several former cricketers came out in support of former Baroda Cricketer.

He played 10 One-Day International matches for India from 1999 to 2001. Apart from it, he guided Baroda to a Ranji Trophy triumph.

The 46-year-old made his debut under Sourav Ganguly’s captaincy, where he played along with several star cricketers like Zaheer Khan, Sachin Tendulkar and Irfan Pathan, who made his Baroda debut under Martin’s captaincy.

The Baroda Cricket Association granted Rs 2.7 lakh while BCCI released Rs 5 lakh from its Benevolent fund. Baroda and India player Krunal Pandya, too, came in full support and sent a blank cheque to BCA Secretary Sanjay Patel asking to fill any amount but not less than 1 lakh.

Meanwhile, former India wicketkeeper Kiran More said the moment he got to know about Jacob’s condition he rushed to the hospital along with Baroda opener Rakesh Parikh.

“I went the next day itself and I knew the doctor very well. So I was in constant touch with them. It was under me that Jacob made his debut. His condition was not that bad initially, he even spoke to me before going into coma for a brief period. When I received a message that he was out of danger, it was a great sigh of relief. His wife had asked for financial help, and the BCA and BCCI arranged for it soon,” Indian Express quoted More.

Former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan also reached to the hospital after hearing about Martin’s condition from his brother Yusuf Pathan.

“I spoke to Jacob’s wife but obviously she was not in a position to speak too much. Such types of incident can happen to anyone and he is from our fraternity, and we are a family. I will be meeting Jacob soon. As a cricketer, we all have differences at some point of time but what was good to see was that people have come forward to help Jacob. I am told things are fine now,” Pathan said.
