Team India lost the two-match T20I series against Australia for the first time as they went down twice in two matches against the visiting side while defending a total. The Indian skipper, Virat Kohli played an unbeaten knock of 38-ball 72 was well backed by MS Dhoni’s 23-ball 40 after they lost the toss. The Indian opener, KL Rahul also scored 47 off 26 balls at the top as India finished on 190/4 by scoring 91 runs from their last six overs. Once again, it was the flamboyant Glenn Maxwell who played India out of the game. His unbeaten 113 off 55 balls contained 9 sixes and 7 fours that helped the Aussies chase down the target with two balls and seven wickets to spare.

Here are some of the major stats and numbers recorded during India’s home T20I series defeat against Australia:

• It has been a second T20I century for Maxwell while chasing. He scored an unbeaten century in Hobart during the last year’s Tri-Series against England. He is only the 2nd player after KL Rahul to score more than one T20I century while chasing.
• Maxwell also became the third batsman after Rohit Sharma and Colin Munro to score three ore more T20I centuries.

• Glenn Maxwell amassed 169 runs in this series and it was 2nd highest tally by any player in a 2-match T20I series. He also holds the record of the highest scorer as he amassed 211 runs against Sri Lanka in 2016.
• It has happened for the first time that under the leadership of Virat Kohli, India has lost a series at home. They won 14 of their previous 15 home International series under Kohli’s captaincy while the 2017 T20I series against Australia ended in a draw.
• Since, 2016, this was also the first time that India lost a bilateral series at home in any format. In their previous 20 bilateral series at home, India won 19 of them while another series ended in a draw.

• Virat Kohli (54) and MS Dhoni (52) completed 50 sixes in T20I cricket. They joined Rohit Sharma (102), Yuvraj Singh (74) and Suresh Raina (58) as the players with 50 T20I sixes for India.
• Dhoni has now smashed 352 sixes in International cricket. He became the first Indian to hit 350 sixes across three formats in Internationals.

• Kohli smashed 6 sixes during this game; the most he has hit in a T20I inning. He hit four sixes in the 2014 WT20 final against Sri Lanka; the only other instance of him hitting more than three sixes in a T20I. His six sixes are also the 2nd most for him in an International knock. He hit seven sixes during his unbeaten 52-ball 100 also against Australia in 2013 Jaipur ODI.
• Virat Kohli’s unbeaten 72-run knock is the highest score by an Indian captain in a T20I defeat. His 65-run knock during the 2017 Rajkot T20I against New Zealand is the only other fifty in a T20I defeat for an Indian captain.

• Virat has now become the first player to aggregate 2500 runs in the shortest format. He has amassed 2519 runs at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in 81 T20s with three centuries and 18 fifties.
• At the Chinnaswamy, Kohli has now smashed 106 sixes in T20s at the Chinnaswamy; the 2nd most by any player. Chris Gayle hit 150 and 122 sixes respectively at the Chinnaswamy Stadium and at the Shere-Bangla Stadium in Dhaka.
• The 100-run partnership between Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni is India’s 2nd century stand in T20I cricket for the 4th wicket. KL Rahul and MS Dhoni put on 107 in the 2016 Lauderhill T20I against Windies.
